- Painting is an out of body experience for me. As I play music loudly and twirl about, I hope to feel open, “the nothingness,” a space for images to arise. When I feel as if I'm fighting a difficult part of the painting I press on and trust I'll push through to that place where I am no longer in control. I am no longer imposing the strokes onto the panel but the piece is painting itself. ...the turtle clouds came this way. There is a letting go which permits the “magical realism” to unfold. My best work comes from a quiet place that is in frenzy motion. I am happiest when I am "in the paint" and I find ways to navigate to this world which I've dubbed "Nebulon.” Nebulon is a state of being akin to a fantastic voyage. I believe everyone journeys there in moments of enjoying music or falling in love or enjoying nature's beauty or dancing. I have to cultivate an empty space to allow for this manic feeling to generate itself.
