AUTUMN WITH TOPSAIL

(!!!They have accepted me again this year... crazy folk!!!)

Come to Topsail for one of the prettiest art festivals by the sea! For me Topsail conjures up fond memories of Pancake breakfasts, Seashells, Artists, BeckaWilder art & hoops, Perry playing the steel drums, dancing by the stage, rainy days & sunny days... it's been a fun time! Thanks for putting on a great show!
Located between pristine Atlantic Ocean Beaches and the Intercoastal,
Autumn with Topsail offers live music, fair food, and children's activities.

Relax ~ Buy gifts and art from their makers.... go local...

Well, not at Topsail; but lovely!
Here is Kelly Jo of RadiantHoops.com
Awesome Talent - see her for performance, hoops, lessons, etc.
She inspires my art!

Portrait Marathon 3 Happenin' at Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance

Just in.... October 2010 I will be working at Shakori Hills painting!
Shakori is an amazing music, art and dance festival. They take a green perspective with stewardship to the earth and feature an earthday parade with Paperhand Puppet Intervention...all nesstled in the pretty groves and hills and of the progressive community of Pittsboro, North Carolina.

The music lineup includes some of my favorites like Big Al Hall, Locos Por Juana, and the uber energetic Holy Ghost Tent Revival... oh and I hope to hear the vocals of Liz and Greg Humphries/Hobex....  washing the playa dust off of my favorite jumping boots now!

Upcoming: Beaver Queen Pageant, Durham and Puppet Festival, Wilmington

I'm whirling a bit at the moment organizing artists for the Beaver Queen Pageant which will be June 5 at Duke Park. Still seeking a few more artists.

And Port City Puppet Festival is seeking artists for a show at ACME. The deadline to submit is June 16. And the opening reception is July 10.

Transformus is coming too...

Much to do this summer!

Hoop Convergence 2010

I'm becoming more adept at camping! And saw such beauty and talent at this conference.

Can't wait to share this in paint.

My 2011 goal: The hooping headstand. I found out that I can do a headstand. Now just have to train to learn the rest. Glad to have met Greg (acro yoga below) ... ten minutes of headstand a day will help to increase energy. ...now I'll  really be going non stop!!

Acro Yoga
A lovely flyer!

Brian and Poki
were inspiring with their isolation hooping and creativity
I really hope they can be part of the Port City Puppet Festival in July 2010

Malcolm taught us to explore hooping in new ways...
to start with little movements, get bigger, repeat and let go... exploration and laughter too!!

Rich giving an isolation workshop. Awesome!
Movement in the concept of "machines!"

Durham Art Walk

Spent a sunny Saturday at Urban Durham Realty (urbandurhamrealty.com) during the spring Durham Art Walk. Exhausted from talking to so many great folk. Always I am reinvigorated with love for the diverse, creative, loving people of this gritty little town. Your greeness inspires me. Got extra grass & rosemary from Whole Foods and orange Gerber Daisies to put in my hair. Hooped in the parking lot sunshine.

In my "contract," my "dressing room" shall contain:
- Italian Roast Coffee
- Demera Sugar
- Fresh cut flowers for my hair
- River Patchouli soap, carrot juice & berries from Wholefoods
- * Music *
- Hoops, Paint, Cans of dog food for yum yum
- a copy of Bill Moyers The Language of Life, a Festival of Poets

The generosity and grand spirit of the women of UDR inspires me.

An unfinished painting "Tightrope" was received well and a few people had that glimmer in their eye for it. It's a big one - 2 2' x 10' panels. Yes, I'm coaxing a Uhaul around town during this heavy work week.

So thrilled to have seen an old friend, Jessica Paige!

Next stop Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival. Then back to Durham for Momart. Artist Michelle Connolly is coming to Momart too to display her work. I adore her circus inspired art. While I reside in flight she in British humor - a real delight!

Metal Clothing Hangers for Bee-comb

I will be collecting two items for reuse. Metal clothing hangers and beverage aluminum cans will be to refashioned into beehives. This is an experiment in three-dimensional art making for me. Metal artist Michael Van Hout has helped so much in instructing how to bend and cut the wire. I will be bending the wire into five thousand hexagon symbols to create five hives.

The hexagon is a natural pattern for building with economy and strength in the way that the hexagons fit together. These will be fit with aluminum discs for an amorphous flowing and reflecting surface inspired by the disco ball.

The finished collectives or hives will be outdoor sculptures that suspend from tree limbs. Their first appearance will be in July 2010 at Transformus in the mountains of North Carolina.

Port City Puppet Festival Logo Design

I was honored to work with Gina Gambony and the Port City Puppet Festival on painting this mermaid rod puppet for their logo. The puppet festival is an annual conference for puppeteers to celebrate the art of puppets and puppetry. The puppets will strut to Wilmington, NC this July. Although it is a weekend long festival, many events such as an art exhibition of puppet related art begin in early July at ACME Art Studios, and there will be performance by Bread & Puppet at the Cameron Art Museum! Joyous puppet applause!!
The original painting with kinetic accoutrements will be on display, location TBA. Greeting cards and prints will be available for purchase.
